Flying Dog Wild Dog Barrel-aged Gonzo Imperial Porter

Flying Dog Brewery LLC

Thanks to Flying Dog for the samples. I had another review written for this beer, a very fancy review, one that you would have laughed at. Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside my control, you don't get to read it. I'll just say that I didn't get a chance to review the non barrel-aged version of this, and from what Steve wrote in his review of that, I'm glad. This was a very very tasty beer. If you can find it, try it.

This is a souped-up version of Flying Dog's Gonzo Imperial Porter....it's been aged for 3 months in whiskey barrels to give it some extra character. I think what the original Gonzo Imperial Porter lacked was made up for with what they did to this one. I liked the nice woody character, and the chocolate background made this a good dessert beer. It's in Flying Dog's limited release series of beers, but if they made this a permanent part of the lineup, or made this their winter release, I'd buy it every year.
