Shakparo is a beer that would take some getting used to. First, it's not brewed with any grains that contain gluten....which is just about every beer you've probably ever had (barley, wheat, oats, rye). Instead, in true African style, it is brewed with sorghum and millet. The resulting product is a fairly fruity, light-tasting beer with a strong woody finish. It's ideal for those suffering from Celiac disease, or who otherwise have a gluten intolerance (like my wife). Unfortunately, after trying it, my wife suggested that if this was the only beer she could have, then drinking beer wasn't worth it. The solid fruit flavor was kind of off-putting to her, but I didn't mind it too much. It seems ideal for a hot-weather session beer.
