The rating might be a little misleading. It's not necessarily among the top Hefeweizen that I've ever had, but it certainly is among those brewed in North America. Hefeweizen are a somewhat elusive style for US brewers, and are often hit or miss. For every one that's good, there are 3 or 4 that are crap. Sierra Nevada's is easily among the top 3, and I think even a German purist would enjoy this. The differences can probably usually be chalked up to the differences in grain, hops and yeast, but Sierra Nevada seems to have overcome the difficulties and produced a fine product, with a nice lemon background, and a refreshing taste.
