This is certainly more of a bock beer than Shiner's version, but I was underwhelmed. It was malty (sweet) and dark like a bock should be, but not as warming. I think it lacked a little in alcohol level. Then again it's not a doppelbock, so you're not likely to feel the alcohol as immediately as you would if it was a doppelbock. It's basically a super-lager. I think my biggest issue is that it's clearly a Christmas beer, but it's not by any means a "winter warmer". For a Christmas beer, I want to feel the alcoholic burn as it goes down my throat, which of course did not happen in this case. A good beer, but not a great beer.
