I was expecting this to be complete crap. Why? Well, the "Exit" series honors the various exits on the NJ Turnpike. And exits 16E (Secaucus) and 16W (the Meadowlands) are among the worst. Not because they put you into bad neighborhoods. Not that at all. But, ever wondered what it would be like to build a town in the middle of a swamp? So did Secaucus' founding fathers. Secaucus is an Algonquin word meaning "Place of Snakes." And the Meadowlands...well, decades ago, someone looked at the swamps there and said, "Let's build sports venues here!" Not exactly a scenic area. However, what I found with this beer was a fantastic double IPA, true to character. Extremely hoppy, you could smell the citrus and pine oozing out of the beer. And the taste was just as good, finishing very hoppy. So hoppy in fact I didn't even notice it was 8.2%ABV. This is a beer I could've stored for a while. Unlike my last visit to Secaucus, I really enjoyed this. In fact maybe the brewers didn't have Secaucus so much in mind as they did that sports complex off of exit 16W, home to 3 Stanley Cup winning Devils teams, and 3 Superbowl winning NY Giants teams. Because this beer was indeed of a champion quality.
