Shiner Winter Brew

Spoetzl Brewing Co

Well, my learning curve is still steep. This was my first dunkelweiss (dark wheat) when I tried it several years ago. I thought it was really good--malty, dark, slightly sweet. A good, thick, hearty winter brew. Since then I've had Weiheinstephaner, Aventinus, and others, so I know a better rendition can be had. Still, let's be fair to Shiner. On my re-try recently, I still thought it was a damned decent offering. It's far superior to their bock style. And at $5.99 to $6.99 a six-pack, it won't knock a hole in your wallet. If you see this on the shelf and you're looking for something different, give it a spin. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
