St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout

McAuslan Brewing

Canada

I don't usually find stouts to be really enjoyable, but either my tastes are changing or this one is an exception. I think it's probably the latter. There was some stout bitterness, but very little. It was quite smooth. Along with the roasted malts, I tasted some coffee and dark chocolate, but no oatmeal. This was in a sampler pack, so I only had one, but I'd be thrilled to find it in sixers somewhere.

You know, I don't think I've ever seen a stout from Canada before. Do Canadians not like stouts? Since their winters are 3 months longer than most people's, you'd think stouts would be more popular. Or maybe they let the Irish make their stouts for them. Anyway, I do prefer Oatmeal stouts over the basic kind, and I found this just as drinkable. If given the choice between this or Sam Smith's, I'm taking Smith's, but this will do.
