This is a little heartier than the Irish red's we're used to (like Killians, for example). The hops are a bit more present, and the caramel malt isn't as sweet. For craftsmanship, definitely an upgrade, but it also doesn't make the everyday drinking beer either. College students won't buy it by the case, like I did with Killians. Then again, that would probably be because of the cost of micros more than anything.
